CRM is the joint research centre for the iron and steel industries, whose industrial partners include large international steel making groups (Arcelor Mittal and Tata Steel) and Belgian firms. It has been entrusted with three main tasks: the application of new technologies in steel production, the acquisition of basic knowledge on the relationships between process variables and steel properties and the worldwide scientific and technological watch in the field of metallurgy.
For many years, CRM has been involved in research programs related to all fields in the steelmaking process. In particular, CRM has a lot of experience in the development of industrial prototypes of new sensors dedicated to on-line and real time metallurgical process control and product quality monitoring. For most of the developed sensors, interest is high to cope with difficult access locations in the production lines. It is also useful to avoid the use of cables which require space and are sometimes difficult to put in place and/or to keep in good state.
