Keynote presentation: Will large-scale white space networks work? Experience from IEEE 802.22 evaluation

Speaker: Przemek Pawelczak

Company/ Institute: UCLA/Fraunhofer

Event: Advances on Cognitive Radio Technology in Flanders

Date: 4 October 2011

Abstract:

Research on Cognitive Radio marks its twelfth anniversary (measured from the publication of the seminal paper by Mitola and Maguire Jr in 1999).
In this talk we will start with a historical look at the progress in Cognitive/White Space radio implementations. Then, we will give insight on the operation of IEEE 802.22 – Wireless Regional Access Networks working in the TV white spaces – showing what are their strengths and vulnerabilities.
Finally we will discuss some interesting applications for white space radio, in particular to bio- and neuro-engineering.
