Within the Electronics department of Howest, we have several research domains in the HF- and microwave technology. All the research topics deal with the design of electronic HF- and RF- communication circuits. One of the main topics is the design of a MIMO-system.
The research is also encouraged to the students within the Electronic department. The students design their own HF- and RF-circuits that can be tested on the existing testbed. The circuits within this domain consider the 2.4 GHz ISM band.
A recently started activity is the design of a testbed for car-2-car communication. This doctoral research is in collaboration with the electromagnetism group INTEC of the Ghent University. Here we are investigating the design of the RF circuits that are needed to work in the 5.8 GHz frequency band.
Another aspect at this high RF frequencies are the EMC properties. At Howest there is an new EMC measurement platform and anechoic room. This will allow us to run EMC compliance measurements with specialized measuring equipment at these high frequencies.
